    While still new to the Paleo diet, I have read several books and experimented with several recipes. The Paleo Diet for Athletes is a great addition to my library. The beginning of the book goes through the Paleo Diet on general terms, and explains why it is beneficial. There is specific information for the benefits to athletes, which is really useful. While obviously anyone in an active lifestyle wants to eat healthier, this section points out the key reasons why this diet is better than any other! The author then highlights what foods should be eaten at different stages of your workout, and generally how best to manipulate the diet to suit your needs. The next section, and the most tasty (I mean important) lists several recipes that I can’t wait to try out! There are great meal plans based on the type of workout you are doing. This is super useful as not all athletes and workouts require the same fuel. Finally the entire formula is repeated for specifically strength-based workouts. While I won’t be using this section as much, I know plenty of people who would love it. Overall a great book!

    The Paleo Diet for Athletes Guide is a truly comprehensive program packaged in a reader friendly format. The Guide begins with a discussion of what constitutes a “paleo” diet, as well as the essential aspects of any structured nutritional plan. As a long time pescetarian athlete, I found myself nodding along with the science-backed information provided in the Guide. Unlike fad diets, which usually focus on extremes that end up in yo-yo-ing, The Paleo Diet for Athletes stresses the importance of balance. The Guide then goes into a discussion of the benefits of a paleo diet. Then it’s on to the really important stuff…the recipes!

    Though I am a dairy-free pescetarian, I was able to find numerous recipes in the Guide which fit my diet lifestyle. The recipes themselves are first presented in four categories–Endurance, Strength, Bulking-Up, and Leaning-Out–and then, and this is rare among diet guides, the recipes are grouped into meal plans for specific sports. The Guide provides athletes with everything from smoothies to energy drinks, on-the-go breakfasts to sit-down dinners, and of course desserts and snacks.

    I think the most important factor, however, is the Guide presents the information so clearly that anyone, athletes and couch-potatoes alike, would benefit from its plan.

    I am glad I got this book. Lately I have been trying to work out more but I found the food I was eating was not giving me enough energy during a jog. While look through kindle books the title sounded interesting.

    Being a vegan since the beginning of the year I was looking for something that would help me stay healthy but also give me options to get in better shape. Paleo Diet for Athletes was just what I needed. The book is split up into what sports it’s reader is interested in partaking in rather than specific food types. It does not harp on calories rather it tries to give you the right food for the activities you are doing.

    The recipes are not limited to breakfast and dinner but snacks as well which is good for moms with young athletes to feed but do not want to feed them fast food or frozen dinners. The book is great for people who are training for a marathon or want to start eating properly before they begin a regular work out routine.

    I enjoy the specificness of this book. It directs the read to what they want to achieve with each meal, it makes easier to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
